Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Pentecost is behind us now, a blaze of Red in our memories. After Trinity Sunday the liturgical color for “ordinary time” is Green. There are 24 Sundays after Trinity, which closes the Christian calendar in time for Advent to begin. The last few Sundays prior to Advent are known as Kingdomtide.
These Sundays are most all devoted to the ministry of our Lord for the three years before His death on the cross, resurrection and ascension. We will listen to Gospel proclamation after proclamation, recounting the miracles, healings, parables and events in Jesus’ life.
It’s interesting to me that we know almost nothing about Jesus’ life between the age of 12 and when His ministry begins. Presumably He was helping Joseph in the carpenter shop and waiting for His Heavenly Father to tell Him it was time to begin the march to Calvary.
It’s a shame to me that this season takes place during the summer when so many take vacations and a lot of church is missed. These are the lessons Jesus left us to help us live a Kingdom life. Many are well known.
I hope you’ll attend as often as possible, for during this Long Green Liturgical Season, we keep learning how to be closer to God, we keep working to spread the Good News of Salvation, we keep lifting one another up and we keep praying together.
I look forward to sharing these important times in the life of Christ with you!
